Kaplan—Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, February 3, 2014 at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan honoring the life of Alton “Ponchoc” Abshire, 93, who died Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at his residence. He will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Cedric Sonnier officiating the services.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Bertrand Abshire of Kaplan; three daughters, Linda Burke, Diana "Dee" Wright, and Candace Abshire, all of Houston, TX; three sisters, Ruby Bertrand, Ruth Trahan, and Ella Gene Adams, all of Kaplan; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren .

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fernest Abshire and the former Azelia DeBlanc; his brother, Willard Abshire; and his four sisters, Lula Abshire, Willa Lege, Hilda Mouton, and Eva Beard.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Sunday, February 2, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 6 p.m.; Monday, February 3, 2014 from 8 a.m. until services.
