Abbeville—Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville honoring the life of Ruby Trahan Pierce, 73, who died Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
At the age of 58, she went back to school and trained to become a licensed practical nurse. She graduated in 1999 from Gulf Area Vo-Tech and was voted to receive the Florence Nightingale Award for the "Best Bed Side Nurse" by her graduating class. She worked for Abbeville General Hospital and retired as an LPN Pharmacy Tech in June of 2014.
Ruby was a good, kind, loving woman who forgave easily and tried to find the good in everyone she met. Her greatest pride was her seven sons, and extended family. She was also proud that she had grandchildren following her into the medical field.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, David Lee Pierce; six sons, Mike Hardy and his wife Neisy, Chris Hardy and his wife Kim, Tony Hardy and his wife Trudy, Tim Hardy and his wife Robin, Pat Hardy and his wife Liz, and David Hardy and his wife Kelly; three step-daughters, Jamie Gaskins, Lisa Pierce, and Susan Pierce; sister, Cheryl T. Guidry; eighteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and twelve step-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ulton Trahan and the former Lucile Eunice Landry; son, John Mark "Dooley" Hardy; grandson, Joshua Hardy; granddaughter, Trisha Hardy; brothers, L.J. Trahan and Bill Irvin Trahan; mother-in-law, Avis Gilbert; and father of her children, Minos J. Hardy.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Thursday, December 11, 2014 from from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. A rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. followed by her services.
