Gueydan—Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 22, 2015 at an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Helen “Sis” Melancon, 93, who died Monday, January 19, 2015 at Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital. She will be laid to rest at Gueydan Cemetery with Reverend Corey Campeaux officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Clayton Petry, Tommy Petry, Craig Petry, Larry Lougon, John Zaunbrecher, and Russell Saltzman.

She is survived by her two daughters, Verda and her husband, J.C. Petry of Gueydan and Loretta and her husband, Thomas Petry of Gueydan; six grandchildren, Phyllis and her husband, John Zaunbrecher, Clayton Petry and his wife, Jenny, Lisa and her husband, Leighton Guilbeau, Tommy Petry and his wife, Tina, Craig Petry and his wife, Dena, and Kim and her husband, Larry Lougon; one brother, Kerney Saltzman and his wife, Lena of Gueydan; twelve great grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emick Melancon; her parents, Ernest Saltzman and the former Helena Primeaux; three brothers, Minus Saltzman, Doles Saltzman, and Innes Saltzman; and three sisters, Neola Schexnider, Helena Adams, and Eza Touchet.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Gueydan, 311 Fourth Street, on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.; Thursday, January 22, 2015 from 8 a.m. until services.
