Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 28, 2015, at a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Alton John Trahan, 91, who died Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Abbeville General Hospital.
He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Fr. Sam Fontana officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Timmy Lachaussee, Curt Trahan, Jacob Trahan, Brett Gunter, Marcus Gunter and Matthew Richard. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Trahan and Kenneth Reaux. Readers for the Mass will be Hope Lachaussee and Jessica Campisi. Altar servers will be Holly Michelle Lachaussee and Abby Angelle Lachaussee. Serving as gift bearers will be Amy Osburn-Torres and Nicole Lege.
Alton was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign as a Corporal in the United States Army and was awarded the Bronze Star. He retired from Schilling Distributers as a Budweiser salesman.
His favorite pastimes included camping, gardening, and cooking. He was a member of Bayou Carlin Camping Club.
He is survived by his four daughters, Sandra T. Osburn and husband Victor of Texas City, TX, Roma T. Gunter and husband Edward of Mouton Cove, Darlene T. Richard and husband Rickey of Abbeville and Mary Pat T. Lachaussee and husband Timmy of Abbeville; two sons, Randall G. Trahan and wife Carol of New Orleans and Alton J. Trahan, Jr. and wife Jackie of Esther; twenty grandchildren and thirty-three great grandchildren; two brothers, Linest Trahan and Michael James Trahan; and sister, Maudry Trahan Mire.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Elodie Marie Guidry Trahan; parents, Eulgere Trahan and the former Veronique Broussard; granddaughter, Lindsay Maria Lachaussee; brothers, Joseph Prudence Trahan, Alvin Ray Trahan, Pierre Rodney Trahan; infant brother, Dalton Trahan; and sister, Marie Louise Trahan Touchet.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Friday, February 27, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, February 28, 2015, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. when the procession will depart for church.
