Kaplan—Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan honoring the life of Ivan Joseph Breaux, 90, who died Thursday, May 14, 2015 at his residence. He will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Rev. Roland Fontenot officiating the services.
Ivan Breaux was a decorated WWII veteran. He served in the US Army Air Corps in the Martin B-26 Marauder missions as a tail gunner and mechanic in the 386 Bombardment and the 553 Bomb Squadron. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from SLI (University of Louisiana at Lafayette). He worked at Kaplan Rice Mill for 30 years. He was instrumental in starting minor league youth baseball in Kaplan and also served as manager for one of the two original teams. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW, and Woodmen of the World. He enjoyed playing his accordion at family gatherings and going to concerts showcasing our local Cajun artists. He loved listening and dancing to French music. He also loved playing Bourre’.
He is survived by his three sons, Thomas Breaux and his wife, Sarah of Bossier City, Bruce Breaux and his wife, Charlene of Leleux, and Kenny Breaux and his wife, Angie of Kaplan; four daughters, Charlene and her husband, Randy Villejoin, Sandra Breaux of Kaplan, Brenda and her husband, Florian Rivet of Maurice, and Jacquelin and her husband, Tim Broussard of Kaplan, 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one sister, Della Breaux Absher Clark of Denham Springs; and one brother, Adam Breaux of Cheyenne, WY.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Geneva Martin Breaux; his parents, Cladis Breaux and the former Ozite Trahan; one sister, Enola Breaux Klutts Verrett; one brother, Jean Breaux; and two great grandchildren, Austin and Samara Breaux.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.; Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 8 a.m. until services.
