Abbeville— A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Frances Adele Wildey Champagne, 76, of Abbeville, wife of Hartwell J. Champagne, Sr. slipped quietly into eternal rest on Thursday night, May 28, 2015, at her home with family by her side.
Frances was born January 30, 1939, in New Orleans, the daughter of Florence P. Wildey and the late Stephen F. Wildey. Living her early life in Lafitte, Louisiana she met the love of her life, Hartwell Champagne, whom she married on December 17, 1960. She graduated from USL in 1979 with a degree in Accounting. After working for several Abbeville and Lafayette companies she began her working career with Omega Protein where she retired in 2008. Frances and Hartwell spent the next several years enjoying a multitude of car trips that crisscrossed the United States.
In addition to her love of travel, other interests included gardening, reading, cooking and her passion for antique and thrift shops for which she was well known for finding top name- brands for pennies on the dollars. The biggest joy for Frances was being able to help and take care of others; her friends, strangers in need, and especially her family.
Mrs. Champagne is survived by her husband of 54 years, Hartwell J Champagne, Sr. and her children; Monique Champagne Stotts and her husband Jon Stotts of Arlington, TX, Hartwell J. Champagne, Jr of Gig Harbor, WA, and Tobias Champagne and his wife Darnell Guidry Champagne of New Iberia, LA.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 300 Pere Megret St, Abbeville, on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 from noon until time of service.
