Dot, as she was known by her many friends, hailed from Eunice, LA until she got married and resided in Kaplan. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McGee. She attended grade school at St. Edmund’s Catholic School in Eunice and graduated from Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau. She attended Soule Business College in New Orleans. While raising her three children, she also worked with her husband at United Insurance Agency for many years. Dot was very active in the community and worked to raise funds for countless worthwhile causes. She was instrumental in the founding of both Vermilion Bank and Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital. She was happiest when she was in the kitchen whipping up many fabulous dishes to delight all of those around her. She cooked for her family, many friends, for the ill, and anyone that needed that special pick-me-up. She was indeed a “Louisiana Lady” with a beautiful smile, a keen sense of style, and the “hostess with the mostest”. Her home was a hospitable place where so many of all ages gathered over the years as they were drawn to her charm as well as her ability to entertain. She and her husband, Paul were known for their flair on the dance floor; they were grace in motion. She was the epitome of unwavering love for her family. She was also selfless, kind, and could never do enough for those she loved. Her love will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew and admired her. She showed everyone a beautiful example of living in pain gracefully as she suffered for the last 30 years with rheumatoid arthritis and never complained and always kept a radiant smile on her face.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 64 years, Paul Roy Eleazar; her three children, Paula, David, and Gene Eleazar; one daughter-in-law, Janet Eleazar; four grandchildren, Nicole and her husband, Ryan Erwin, Camille, Bailey, and Sophie Eleazar; three great grandchildren, Gray, Emi, and Nicholas Erwin; one brother, Barry McGee; one sister, Joan McGee and her husband, David Raznick; and one sister-in-law, Lucy McGee who remains a dear “sister”.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Douglas McGee, Sr. and the former Laurie Barry; and one brother, Douglas McGee.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital, Hospice of Acadiana, and Dr. Randall Faulk for their compassion and care. We also wish to thank Mrs. Earline Roy, Mrs. Beverly Roche, and Mrs. Jan Guilbeaux, who have become like family to us.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 600 N. Church Avenue, on Friday, December 11, 2015 from 10 a.m. until services.
