Mary D. Suire Oels

Mary Oels and her former husband, Bea Suire were the owners and founders of Suire’s Grocery located south of Kaplan. Her love for people, food, and her Cajun heritage propelled her business into the success that it is today. What started out as her childhood dream grew into fruition, when this little country store came up for sale 39 years ago. When only groceries were sold, she had a vision to serve authentic Cajun food to all. Her dream came true when she supplied locals with her home cooked Cajun meals. The word began to spread about her great food and she then had visitors and tourists from many different places. She always credited the Lord for the success in her business and always believed that if you put God first, everything else would fall into place. Mary’s mission in life was to see her children and their families accept the Lord as their savior which she accomplished. Her favorite expression was “The Lord is good all the time and yes He is!”
She is survived by her four daughters, Kathy and her husband, Gerald Broussard of Abbeville, Dot and her husband, Bobby Breaux of Kaplan, Joan Suire of Kaplan, and Lisa and her husband, Duane Frederick of Kaplan; one son-in-law, Donnie Schexneider of Kaplan; seven grandchildren, Adam Schexneider and his wife, Kelly, Matthew Broussard and his wife, Joy, Holly Broussard and her fiancé, Sam Dotson, Haley and her husband, Matt Arnett, Skyla Boudreaux, Trisha and her husband, Lawrence Jones, and Brook and her husband, Joshua Bufford; seven great grandchildren, Brett Schexneider, Madison Schexneider, Kaleb Broussard, Melodie Broussard, Greyson Arnett, Kade Boudreaux, and Karter Boudreaux; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl Schexneider; her parents, Servise Dubois and Nunez "Noon" Broussard; one brother, John Dubois; one sister, Diane Boullion; her first husband, Newton "Bea" Suire; and her late husband, Howard Oels.
The family would like to thank her past and present caregivers. A special thanks to Juanita, Julie, Candace, and Carol for the love and compassion they provided.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m.; Thursday, December 31, 2015 from 10 a.m. until services.
