Cristelle Hebert Fusilier

November 19, 1929 — October 31, 2016

KAPLAN - Cristelle Hebert Fusilier died peacefully on October 31, 2016 surrounded by family and friends at Lafayette General Medical Center. She was born on November 19, 1929 in Bell City, Louisiana. She was 86 years old when she went to meet her Lord and Savior. Funeral services honoring her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 4, 2016 at Vincent Funeral Home in Kaplan. She will be laid to rest in the Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Paul Bienvenu officiating the services.

She loved the Lord first, but her family was a close second. She instilled in her family a deep sense of faith and love of family. Her greatest joy was having her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren over for the holidays. Her home was filled with joy, laughter, and fun. She was always everywhere, making sure everyone had eaten and was enjoying themselves. She was an awesome hostess. Cris loved to cook and her passion to volunteer was inspiring. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Ladies Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, Holy Rosary Bereavement Committee, a neighborhood Rosary group, and Vermilion Volunteers for Family and Community. She loved playing Po-ke-no with her group and visiting with friends. For many years she cared for children in her home, including her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Leroy affectionately called all of them his “Rug Rats” and the name sort of stuck. Each child she cared for was loved and nurtured as if they were her very own. Maw-Maw Cris gave each child a birthday party complete with invitations, decorations and presents. She also made each holiday a special event for everyone. She taught them how to read and write. Many days the kids went home with a gift for their parent. It might have been some picture they had colored or gift she helped them to make. She was an excellent teacher. She taught people many things and led by example which includes her faith, strength, determination to be independent, and most importantly her love for life.

This beautiful woman was lovingly known by many names, Mom, “Maw-Maw Cris”, and Cris. Cris was a very special person. She was kind, considerate, loving, caring, giving, and selfless. She loved to have family and friends gather at her house so she could cook. Food was never in short supply when Cris cooked. She figured if you were full, you were happy. Cris had a full and busy life and she loved it that way. She and her husband, Leroy had four children, Ingrid Faye Touchet (married to Lurcy), Sylvia “Tweety” Trahan (married to Michael), Kenneth Lynn Fusilier, and Harold Fusilier (married to Yvette Kinslow). In addition to her children she is survived by eight grandchildren, Sherrie Vanover (significant other, Glenn White), Darrin Touchet (Roxanne), Todd Touchet (Angela), Christy Schexnider (Wes), Brandon Trahan (Andrea), Lauren Fusilier (significant other-Kevin Guilfou), Blake Fusilier (Victoria), and Jordan Fusilier. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren, Garrett and Trey Touchet, Sydni and Cade Vanover, Cameron and Grant Touchet, Brant Schexnider, and Bryce, Marlee and Tripp Trahan. She also leaves behind her beloved sisters-in-law, Sis Corbello, Sophie Alexander, Bernadine Fusilier, Verna Fusilier, and Virgie Hebert; her brother-in-law, Herbert Fusilier and his wife, Mamie; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Joseph Fusilier; her parents, Webster Hebert and Sylvia Corbello; and her brother, Wilton Hebert, Sr.

The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers, Bria Huntsberry, Ashley Lejeune, Laurie Hebert, and Joan Schexnider. She loved each of them. The love and care they gave her was much appreciated and beautiful to see.
