Abbeville-Jackie A. Simpson passed away at his home in Abbeville, Louisiana on March 2, 2017, surrounded by family. A Memorial Service will be held in his honor at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from 1 pm to 4 pm.
Jackie was born in Beaufort, NC and worked all his life in the Menhaden Fishing Industry. Following his father and grandfather into the family business which took him from North Carolina to New Jersey and eventually to Louisiana. Jackie was a Menhaden Captain for twenty-one years. He then was one of the founders of ABC Bait in Morgan City, Louisiana where he was instrumental in revolutionizing the Instant Quick Freeze (IQF) process as well as lobbying to change many laws for Louisiana Fish and Wildlife regulations.
He is preceded in death by his wife, of forty-four years, Mae Dean Rogers Simpson; sister, Mildred Simpson Davis; and parents, Berkeley and Rosebud Wade Simpson.
He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Simpson of College Park, MD., and Michele (Wilson) Jones of Hertford, NC.; sons, Ray (Valerie) Coltrain of Hertford, NC., and Jack A. Simpson, Jr. of Abbeville, LA.; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
