Kaplan—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church. She will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Paul Bienvenu officiating the services.
Edith, 97, returned to her heavenly home on April 25, 2017 after a long and faith-filled life. Her devotion to her family, her firm belief in God and her Catholic faith supported her throughout her life. She was a prayer warrior, continually supporting her family and friends with prayer. She had a great devotion to the rosary, which touched many lives.
Edith was born to the late Clomere Guidry and Clodia Trahan Guidry in Wright, Louisiana on March 12, 1920. She experienced the hardship of the Great Depression, dropping out of school in the seventh grade in order to work to help provide for her family. Her commitment to education never wavered as she later completed course work in accounting, and became a practical nurse. She accepted positions and worked until retirement in the fields of general medicine, obstetrics and gynecology. She and her husband, Bill were very active in the Catholic community including the Charismatic Renewal, and Third Order Carmelites. They were lay Eucharistic Ministers.
Edith was a cook at heart and loved when her family gathered around to enjoy the fruits of her labor. She set the standard that generations compare their cooking to. She loved practical jokes and played them readily, with a twinkle in her eye, on family and friends. She was a great dancer, very competitive, and never let her grandchildren or great grandchildren win at UNO or Bourre.
She is survived by her children, Bobby Toups of Lafayette, Louisiana and Freddie Ann Toups Chandler of Lake Charles, Louisiana; their spouses Stephanie Smith Toups, and Robert, “Bob” Chandler; 8 grandchildren, Gina Toups Trahan (Pat), Robby Toups (Karen), Shawri Toups Landry (Gary), Victoria Toups Hoyt (Spencer), Erin Regan MacInnes (Andy), Marci Regan Dallas (Stewart), Katie Regan Brittain (Stephen), Anne Regan; and 13 great grandchildren, Emily Trahan, Trey Toups, Ian William MacInnes, Payton Trahan, Tyler Regan, Maddie Landry, Molly Landry, Mary-Claire Landry, Camryn Dallas, William Henry Brittain, Owen Brittain, Myles Brittain, Kathryn Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her first born child, Genelle Marie Toups, her first husband, Freddie Toups, a sister, Elda Guidry Console, three brothers, Aubrey Guidry, Norris Guidry, John Guidry, and her devoted husband of 45 years, William Lloyd “Bill” Henry.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church on Friday, April 28, 2017 from 9:30 AM until services with a rosary being prayed at 11:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Carmelite Order.
