Alice Girouard, a devoted wife, mother, nurse, and community servant, passed away surrounded by the love of her family on February 11, 2026. Her life was defined by faith, service, and an unwavering commitment to those she cared for—both at home and throughout her community.
A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Reverend Mikel Polson will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, February 16, 2026, at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Church. She will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery. A visitation will take place at Vincent Funeral Home of Kaplan on Sunday, February 15, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM. The visitation will continue Monday from 8:00 AM until the procession departs for the church at 12:45 PM.
Alice was a proud graduate of Kaplan High School, Class of 1958, where she distinguished herself as Valedictorian, Homecoming Queen, FFA Sweetheart, and a member of Beta Sigma Phi. During those years, she met the love of her life, Rustum Ernest (Ernest) Girouard, Jr., her high school sweetheart and husband, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and partnership.
She went on to graduate from the Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans in 1961, beginning a remarkable nursing career that would span 54 years. Early in her professional life, Alice chose to place her career on hold to devote herself fully to raising her four children. Once her children were all in high school, she returned to nursing, continuing her lifelong calling to care for others.
Alice served with distinction at Abbeville General Hospital, where she was Head Nurse of the Medical-Surgical and Pediatric Units and later oversaw Infection Control. Known for her professionalism, compassion, and leadership, she left a lasting impact on her patients and colleagues alike.
A woman of deep faith and community spirit, Alice was a member of the Catholic Daughters for over 50 years and served as Past Regent (President). She was also Past Secretary of the Ladies Altar Society. Her civic service included roles as Chairman of the Vermilion Parish Farm Bureau Women’s Committee and Louisiana Farm Bureau Women’s District Director. Alice was Past President of the Kaplan Garden Club Federation and a past member and queen of Krewe Chic à la Pie.
Alice is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Rustum Ernest (Ernest) Girouard, Jr.; her children, Rustum (Rusty) Ernest Girouard III and his wife Camille of Lafayette and their son Nicholas, Yvette Day and her husband Terry of Frisco, Tx, and their son Luke, Steven Girouard and his wife Kathy of Lafayette and their children Maddie and Ian, and Wayne Girouard of Youngsville and his children André, Maya, and Tate; her sisters, Gloria Comeaux of New Iberia and Deanna Hayes of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Easton Simon and the former Pauline Harrington; and one brother, Carl Simon.
Above all, Alice will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, and a woman whose life was guided by faith, grace, and service. Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished, the countless lives she touched through her nursing career, and the community she served so faithfully.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Acadiana and Senior Helpers.
