Obituary

Arlene Lucille Brauns Hargroder, 64, passed away surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana, she later made her home in Abbeville, where she built a life centered on family, friendship, service, and creating lasting memories with those she loved most. Arlene attended Our Lady of Fatima School and later Louisiana State University.

She was known for her generous heart, infectious spirit, and unwavering dedication to the people she loved. Arlene always put others before herself, making sure everyone around her was cared for, supported, and loved.

She was the proud mother of Valerie Broussard Stakes, Michelle Hargroder Simon (Jon Stevens), Lori Romero (Madison), Don Hargroder Jr., and Madeline Grace Hargroder. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Lanie Broussard, Alex Broussard, William Broussard, Lexi Stakes, Taegyn Simon, Charli Romero, Zachary Romero, and Christian Hargroder. Arlene shared many wonderful years with her loving partner, Brent Broussard. She also shared a lifelong bond with her former husband, Don Hargroder, the father of her children.

Arlene found joy in the simple things that made life special. She loved fishing, spending time in Grand Isle, attending Kenny Chesney concerts, traveling to Disney, and making memories with family and friends. Her beloved dog, Big Da Da Bear, and her cherished home in Utah were among her greatest joys.

One of Arlene’s proudest accomplishments was founding the Training4Life program through Courtesy Automotive Group to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana. She was passionate about helping young people develop life skills and opportunities for success. This program will continue as part of her enduring legacy and commitment to the Acadiana community. Arlene’s greatest legacy, however, is the love she poured into her family, friends, and community. Her kindness, generosity, strength, and selflessness touched countless lives and will continue to inspire all who knew her.

The Hargroder family has chosen to hold a private ceremony to honor their mother.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Seth Reed, Brandon Mitchell, James Brauns, Christopher Melvin, and Colin Kras.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to support the Training4Life program through Courtesy Automotive Group for the benefit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana, ensuring that Arlene’s passion for helping young people continues for generations to come.
