In Loving Memory of Clay

Clay Allen Hebert was born on March 19, 2020 in Lafayette, LA.

Sometimes referring to himself as Peter Parker, Clay had an incredible love for Spider-Man. But more than just a fan of superheroes, Clay was our own little symbol of love, hope, companionship, and innocence. Like all children, he was special—but Clay filled a unique space in our hearts that words will never fully capture. At a young age, Clay lost his Paw and Maw-Naw. He may have been too young to fully understand, but we did. We understood just how precious life is, and we held onto him with all our hearts.

Clay was a true mamma’s boy—sweet, silly, and full of life. He loved to sing and dance, and he had an incredible gift for memorizing movie scripts. He made little videos with such pride, and his mom often found her phone filled with pictures and clips he had made himself. Clay and Cory shared a special bond, often sneaking cookies and blue chips together. He had a playful streak—he loved to draw on his pillows and sheets.

He enjoyed going to his dad and Ms.“Mallowy’s” house, where adventures with his sisters were endless. Together they played hide and seek, rode four-wheelers, swam, and enjoyed plenty of pizza, cookies, and pancakes. Clay also loved playing with his cousins Desmond, Dawson, and Landon. He could often be found messing with his Uncle Gage during visits to Mi-Mi’s house, where his favorite snacks were always waiting just for him.

Clay was often by his Aunt Frannie’s side, accompanying her on errands, bringing joy to every outing. He entertained his Grannie and Paw with his laughter and charm. He was his cousin Luke’s Hot Wheels passenger and his best buddy. He made us laugh with his sweet imitation of Spider-Man, shooting imaginary webs and dressing up in costumes—a true picture of a boy with a boundless imagination.

He had big blue eyes and, for a time, curly blonde hair. Clay loved cookies—often asking for “three at a time… plus one more,” —and more recently, he had fallen in love with cereal, especially the Lucky Charms marshmallows. He experienced so much in his short life: visiting the beach, exploring the NASA Space Center, riding in a helicopter, and starting a new school in Lake Charles.

Clay was always friendly and loved telling people hi and giving hugs. When you asked him for a kiss, he’d lean in with that signature head motion—one of many little gestures we’ll remember forever. The stories of his joy, silliness, and love are truly countless.

He will always be remembered as our sweet, imaginative, free-spirited Clay.

Clay passed away on Friday, September 12th, from significant injuries sustained in a tragic car accident. Surrounded by family, he died peacefully with his mother holding his hand. There are no words to describe such a moment, but we are profoundly grateful to have had the opportunity to say goodbye.

We want to extend our deepest thanks to the EMTs with Acadian Ambulance, the staff at Lake Charles Memorial, Air Med, and the incredible team at Children's Hospital in Baton Rouge—especially the nursing staff who so compassionately cared for both Clay and our family during the most difficult hours of our lives. We are also grateful to the bystander who helped at the scene and to the Pellerin family for their kindness and support.

Though we will miss him dearly here on Earth, we take comfort in knowing that Clay was warmly embraced by the loved ones who went before him.

Clay is survived by his mother, Evan Lee LeMaire (Cory Pellerin); father, Cameron Michael Hebert and his wife Mallory; siblings, Emerson Baker, River Hebert, and Kate Hebert; paternal grandparents, Robert Hebert and Aimee Guidry Hebert (Mi-Mi); maternal great grandparents, Flordury and Ray McDowell, and Gloria Vidrine; paternal great grandparents, Randy Hebert, Carolyn Hebert, and Yvette Ellender.

He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Dudlie Ann Thibodeaux LeMaire, and grandfather, Jeffery Lemaire (Tina LeMaire).

A memorial service officiated by Pastor Don Norman will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday September 20, 2025, at Vincent Funeral Home in Abbeville. A visitation will take place from 8:30 AM until the time of service. All funeral arrangements are being conducted by Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville (337) 893-4661.
