Abbeville- A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Abbeville, for Darcas Lee Monic, 76, who passed away peacefully at the Calcutta House on September 14, 2026. Fr. Alexander Albert will officiate at the Mass and burial will be held privately at a later time.

Visitation will be held at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville, Tuesday, September 15, 2026 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. and continue until the procession departs for church for 12:45 pm.

Darcas, lovingly known as “Dolly” by her family, and by friends who knew her as “Pork Chop”, will be warmly remembered by all who knew her. She enjoyed playing cards and going to the casino. She was very competitive when it come down to games. She enjoyed and loved, loved to play bingo, loved roosters, they were all over her house, had a sweet tooth for Peanut M&M’s, and could often be found with two or three crossword puzzles close at hand. She loved jewelry and was rarely seen without several rings on each hand. Her family will also fondly remember her eyes rolling at them whenever they arrived without her cold Diet Dr Pepper.

She was part of the American Legion Auxiliary in Kaplan and was a great cook when she was a homemaker raising her family. She could make a mean lemon meringue pie and we could always lick the beaters when done and her delicious homemade fried chicken which we always ate cold the next day. She loved spending time with her grandkids all of them when they visited, especially “Mike” and everyone knew this -lol.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her and in the many stories, smiles, and cherished moments she leaves behind.

She is survived by her children and their spouse, Melissa (Deacon Bill) Vincent, Samantha (Shawn) Tucker, 5 grandkids- Michael Vincent, Cecily Vincent, Saydie Tucker, Stone and Sonny Tucker, and one great grandchild-Evelyn Vincent and one sister, Doris Babb.

She is preceded in death by her spouse of 50 years, Lovelace J. Monic, her parents, Claude and Rita Schexneider, 6 brothers, Jessie Ray Schexneider, Wilfred Ray Schexneider, James “Manny” Schexneider, Claude Joseph Schexnieder, Jr., Earl Ray Schexneider, and Rickey Schexneider, 4 sisters, Wilda Mae Lavergne, Ina Marie Schexneider, Mary Ann Guidry, Leola Blanchard.

Pall bearers will be Deacon Bill Vincent, Shawn Tucker, Michael Vincent, Stone Tucker, Sonny Tucker, Mauricio Villasana, Felix Guidry, and Joe Taravella.

The family would like to thank the late Dr. Randall Faulk for all his care of mom, Dr. Rick Faul, who mom thought was very sweet, Abbeville General for all the good care they did in previous years, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital week day staff and doctors were amazing.

Pelican Point Nursing Home, for making her feel at home even though she wasn’t there very long- she felt comfortable and I’m glad ya’ll thought she was funny and sassy in a playful way. All sitters who took care of her through the years especially Karan Abshire, wish we would have found you sooner.
