David R. Abshire

Funeral services officiated by Deacon Bryan Istre will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 25, 2026 at Vincent Funeral Home of Kaplan honoring the life of David Ray Abshire I, 59, who passed away on June 18, 2026. He will be laid to rest at Abshire Cemetery. 

Serving as pallbearers will be David Abshire II, Corky Mire, Roman Bellon, Courtney Bourque, Colby Abshire, and Shayne Abshire. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Cormier II and his grandson, Michael Cormier III. 

A visitation will take place at Vincent Funeral Home of Kaplan on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 from 11:00 AM until the funeral services at 10:00 AM on Thursday. A rosary will be prayed on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at 6:00 PM.

David was a talented operator in the oilfield industry, where he earned a reputation as a dedicated and respected production man. His work was important to him, but it was his family that truly filled his heart. Family was always his number one priority, especially his grand babies. On his days off, David could often be found camping, fishing, hunting, or tending to cattle on the farm. He loved to cook up delicious meals for his family, creating memories around the dinner table that will be cherished for years to come. 

He is survived by his life partner, Bernadette Abshire of Kaplan; two daughters, DesiRae (Roman) Bellon of Kaplan and Devanie (Corky) Mire of Indian Bayou; his son, David Ray Abshire II (Cee' Jae) of Indian Bayou; his mother, Esther Abshire of Leleux; three sisters, Angela Abshire of Leleux, Rhonda Broussard of Leleux, and Christina Bourque of Leleux; one brother, Shayne Abshire of Morse; his 12 grandchildren, MiKaylah, Michael III, DemiRae, Rolan, Cooper, Oakley, Huxley, Tucker, Autumn, Paisley, Kaisley, David III and waiting the arrival of Baby Abshire; and his one great grandchild, Mari'anii and one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Abshire; his sister, Melinda Abshire, his godchild, Jacob Broussard; his paternal grandparents, Daego and Enite Abshire; and his maternal grandparents, Ophelious and Bernice Trahan.
