Delores worked tirelessly during her younger years, tending to cows, chickens, and guineas alongside her beloved husband, San. When he was away working on tug boats, she managed all the responsibilities, continuing to care for her animals and making sure everything ran smoothly.
Delores was known for her love of Bingo, she would often load up her 15-passenger van with friends and head out to any Bingo hall she could find. If she won at cake bingo, you could count on her to bring those delicious cakes home to share with family or freeze for the next holiday gathering.
Delores had a fun-loving spirit, frequently hitting the casinos with family and friends, and cherished time spent playing Sega video games, especially “Toe Jam and Earl” with her sister and grandchildren. A true sports fan, she couldn't be pulled away from her beloved Atlanta Braves, LSU Tigers, and New Orleans Saints. When she wasn’t glued to a game, you could find her browsing home shopping channels, always on the lookout for the next piece of jewelry to add to her collection.
Delores was very independent and loved spending time working outdoors, mowing the grass and making sure the fig trees were protected with her trusty 410 by the front door. Her beloved poodle, Fefe, was her loyal companion after the passing of her husband, providing comfort and companionship during the years.
In 2002, Delores bravely battled breast cancer and emerged victorious, celebrating over 23 years as a survivor. She was an example of toughness, strenghth and determination.
She is survived by two daughters, Bernadine M. and her husband, Joseph Hebert Jr. of Forked Island and Tina M. and her husband Patrick Dubois of Broussard; seven grandchildren, Bridget Emmert, Megan Hebert, Rustin Menard, Owen Hebert, Gidget Menard, Kalli Dubois Mondrik and Nicholas Landry; and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orris "San" Menard; one son, Rodrick Menard; her parents, Leonard Abshire and the former Yolande Frederick; and one sister, Shirley A. Mouton.
The family sincerely thanks the wonderful staff at Kaplan Healthcare Center and Southern Grace Hospice for their compassionate care during her final years.
