She was born on August 21, 1938, in the vibrant town of Abbeville, Louisiana. As one of five siblings raised by her devoted parents, Milton and Elvina Campbell, her early life was filled with the warmth of family bonds and shared experiences. Throughout her years, Delores was always hardworking and striving to care for others. She owned her own beauty shop and loved being a beautician. When she was not busy working, raising a family, helping her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she loved cooking and preparing feasts for holidays, Sunday dinners, and special get-togethers, always with her special chocolate cake for those special occasions. She loved hosting “coffee time” with her best friend and family gathering on the front porch every afternoon. It was always “5 o’clock somewhere” at her home.
Her children called her Mom but she was affectinately known as “Maw Lori” to everyone else; she was the true matriarch of her family — a woman whose love created deep roots that will continue to hold generations together. To know her was to feel welcomed, valued, and deeply loved. Her presence was a gift, and the impact she made on those around her will live on in countless hearts.
She was one of the most caring, thoughtful, compassionate, generous, and selfless people anyone could hope to meet. Dolores gave of herself freely and loved without hesitation. She had a rare ability to see wonder in the smallest moments, beauty in what others might overlook, and purpose even in life’s difficult seasons. Her strength was undeniable — tough when she needed to be, yet always filled with grace.
Family was the center of her world. She poured her love into every person lucky enough to call her theirs. Whether through comforting words, steady guidance, or the simple warmth of her presence, she made people feel safe, supported, and deeply cherished.
Her faith guided her life and shaped the way she loved others — with patience, kindness, and a generous spirit. She carried herself with quiet strength and unwavering honor and devotion to the things that mattered most.
Those who knew her will remember her for the way she made people feel: important, loved, and never alone. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the values she instilled, and the love she gave so freely.
We are forever grateful for the years we were blessed to share with her. We will carry her lessons forward, continue the love she planted, and do our best to make her proud.
She is survived by her two sons, Tim Meaux and wife, Marlyn of Abbeville, and Mark Meaux and wife, Lisa of Morgan City; two daughters, Dianna Gaspard and her husband, Minos of Meaux, and Jessica Latiolias and her husband Glenn, of Meaux; ten grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; with a great great grandchild on the way, sister, Gail Collins (Lee); and brothers Christopher Campbell (Bonnie), Larry Campbell (Robert)(Cathy) and a very special sister-in-law, Julia Campbell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raywood Paul Meaux; parents, Milton Joseph Campbell and the former Elvina Frederick; brother, Milton John Campbell; son, Joseph Meaux; granddaughter, MaryAnn Gaspard; and great-grandson, Zachary Pickens.
In this time of remembrance, let us come together not only to mourn her loss but to celebrate the beautiful life she lived. Thank you for loving us all big big! Because of you, we will love bigger, better! You will always be a part of us.
The family would also like to thank Heart of Hospice and all their staff for the outstanding care of Mrs. Dolores in her final days.
