It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Gene Hebert, 88, of Abbeville, Louisiana, who departed this life on June 17, 2026. Born on September 27, 1937, Donald was a dedicated firefighter, having proudly served as a captain with the Abbeville Fire Department for 30 years. His unwavering commitment to his community and his bravery in the face of danger left a lasting legacy that will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. 

Donald was married to his beloved wife, Janet Hebert, for an astounding 67 years. Together, they built a loving family and shared a deep bond that weathered the tests of time. He was a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather, finding immense joy in the laughter and accomplishments of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his family and career, Donald had a passion for country music, which resonated throughout his life. He enjoyed sharing his favorite songs and melodies with loved ones, creating cherished memories through music. 

A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Reverend Daniel Picard will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, June 22, 2026, at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church to honor his life and legacy, allowing family and friends to come together in celebration of his spirit and the many lives he touched. He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Trenton Baudoin, Kyle Baudoin, Derek Dupuis, Seth Hebert, Trey Landry, and Logan Pippin. Honorary pallbearers will include Jacob Fleming, Tim Poche’, and David Bandy. 

A visitation will take place at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville, 209 S. Saint Charles St., Abbeville, on Monday, June 22, 2026, from 9:00 AM until 1:45 PM, when the procession will depart for the church. A rosary is being prayed at 11:00 AM. 

He is survived by his loving spouse, Janet Bower Hebert; three daughters, Darlene H. Fontenot and her husband Roger, Donna H. Baudoin and her husband Adrien, and Sharon H. Landry and her husband Scott; ten grandchildren; as well as eighteen great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. 

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Senua “Noon” John Hebert and the former Vivian Marie Bergeron; and brothers, Roy Hebert and Glenn Hebert.
