Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Rev. Alexander Albert will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 15, 2026, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, honoring the life of Donald Lee Lege, 87, who passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, Louisiana after a brief illness. He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery.

Those serving as pallbearers will be Stephen Lege Jr., Craig Broussard, Mark Bon, Chris Menard, Benjamin French, and Bryan Vice. Frank Creasey will be an honorary pallbearer.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville, 209 S. Saint Charles St., Abbeville from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM when the procession will depart for the church. A rosary is being prayed at 10:15 AM.

Donald was born on October 3, 1938 in Abbeville, Louisiana to the late Lurline Broussard Lege and Dalton Lege. After graduating from Abbeville High School in 1956. Donald proudly served in the United States Army as a Radio Specialist stationed in Kitzingen, Germany. He enjoyed a long career, over 35 years, as a USDA Federal Grain Inspector. Donald found his greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life and in the people he loved. He was happiest cooking for family celebrations, casting a fishing line, enjoying a day of golf, sitting down for a spirited game of dominoes, coaching local baseball teams, and cheering for LSU and New Orleans Saints football games.

He traveled regularly on holidays and summer vacations to visit distant family members. He and his beloved wife, Yvonne, also created many wonderful memories traveling with other golfing couples to Mississippi and Florida, where they enjoyed beautifully manicured courses, wine spritzers, good food and even better company. His quick wit and playful teasing made every gathering more memorable and those closest to him knew that if he was giving you a hard time it usually meant you had earned a special place in his heart.

He is survived by his children, Kristin Lege (Elda), Stephen Lege Sr., and Stephanie Suttle; grandchildren, Cherise French (Ben), Mark Bon, Jonel Bon (Stephanie), Stephen Lege Jr. (Jaime), Tabitha Lewis, Brian Suttle, and Rachel Eichner (Mike); and 17 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lurline Broussard Lege and Dalton Lege; his siblings, George Lege, who passed away at one year old, and two infant sisters; his beloved wife, Yvonne Creasey Lege; his daughter, Melanie Jayne Lege; his son-in-law, Ronald Suttle; and many lifelong friends and cherished family members, including most recently Autrey Duhon and his uncle, Warren Broussard.

Donald was especially grateful for the kindness and thoughtfulness of his cousin, Sandra Vice, whose frequent visits and check-ins brought him comfort and companionship in his later years.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks those wishing to honor Donald's life donate in his name to St. Mary Magdalen Parish Church online at stmarymagdalen.org/donate.

All funeral arrangements are being conducted by Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville (337) 893-4661.
