Abbeville-Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Vincent Funeral Home Abbeville, honoring the life of Donald Joseph Vollmer, 72, with Deacon William Vincent officiating, who passed away Friday, August 28, 2026, at his residence in Abbeville, LA. He will be laid to rest at St. Mary Magdalen Mausoleum. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Clay Vollmer, Nathan Gary, Michael Luquette, Keith Luquette, Hunter Luquette, and Hayden Luquette.

Donald was born on January 10, 1954 in Abbeville, to Jesse A. Vollmer, Sr. and Eunice Marie Luquette Vollmer. He was a 1972 graduate of Vermilion Catholic High School. Donald was a member of the Knights of Columbus and an active parishioner and volunteer of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church.

Donald and his brother, Charles, took over their father’s farm in 1975 and farmed rice, crawfish and soybeans until Charles’ passing in 2002. Don continued the farming legacy for several years after and eventually retired. However, his love for the farm still remained. There were always projects to keep him busy, and he loved the challenge of trying to fix things that were unfixable. He was never known to be without at least one canine companion. He and his sister, Juanita, enjoyed the routine of walking their dogs together and taking them for joyrides. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his sister; Juanita Vollmer Crochet, and his brother; Jesse Allen Vollmer, Jr., and his wife Josie Oliva; three nephews; Clay Vollmer, Thomas Vollmer and Jacob Vollmer; and three nieces; Jessica Vollmer, Vanesa Vollmer and Katie Vollmer

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; Jesse Allen Vollmer, Sr. and Eunice Marie Luquette Vollmer and one brother Charles Ray Vollmer.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles St., on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the time of the service.
