Edna Choate Bernard

A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Fr. Matthew Barzare will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at St. James Catholic Church, Esther, honoring the life of Edna Choate Bernard, 102, who passed away on April 11, 2026, at Eastridge Nursing Center. She will be laid to rest at Esther Community Cemetery. 

A visitation will take place at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville, 209 S. Saint Charles St., Abbeville, on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 10:00 AM until 2:30 PM, when the procession will depart for the church. A rosary is being prayed at 2:00 PM. 

She is survived by her three grandchildren, Pam Cormier, Ann Marie Guillory, and Andrew M. Bernard; great-grandchildren, Payton Broussard, Emily Broussard, Michael Guillory, and Grant Guillory; and daughter-in-law, Leah Bernard. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshal Bernard; son, Michael James Bernard; parents, Elevoda Choate and the former Ellen "Helen" Veazey; and siblings, Edward C. Choate, Otis J. Choate, Marlin J. Choate, Della Toups, Stella Bernard, Pauline Johnson, and Lenwood Choate.
