Ernest J. Istre

A Funeral Service Officiated by Mr. Ernest’s grandson Deacon Jules Breaux will be held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Vincent Funeral Home honoring the life of Ernest J. Istre, 89, who passed away on May 27, 2025, at his residence.

Ernest grew up on a farm North of Kaplan in Leroy, Louisiana farming Rice and Cotton. He worked at NAPA Auto Parts for a few years, then went into the Oilfield and worked on Oil Rigs. Mr. Istre owned and operated a Full-Service Gas Station for Canal Refining Company for 17 years in Kaplan. Later in life he worked for Wal-Mart for 10 years and then retired.

He enjoyed many things, including hunting in Many, Louisiana with the Manasco family, traveling and camping, especially to Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Tennessee multiple times a year. He also enjoyed visiting with all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and inspecting everyone’s vehicle tires when they visited. He always enjoyed telling a good joke and was always ready to hear one too.

A visitation will take place at Vincent Funeral Home on Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. A rosary will be prayed at 2:30 PM. Burial will follow at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Gracie Frederick Istre of Leroy; two sons, Brent Istre and his wife, Jan of Kaplan and Randall Istre and his wife, Jenny of Houston, TX; two daughters, Cynthia Istre of Kaplan and Trina Istre Adams and her husband, Doug of Elizabeth; one sister, Joyce Broussard of Breaux Bridge; nine grandchildren, Corey Henry (Ashley), Chad Henry (Abbey), Cherisse Pippin (Boyd), Brock Istre (Monica), Angelique Hargrave (Trent), Natalie Istre, Caroline Istre, Jules Breaux (Sabrina) and Johnathan Breaux (Sydnie); and nineteen great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ellis Istre and the former Alicia Bouillion and his in laws, Willie Frederick and Azillie Hebert Frederick.
