Bodin

Vincent Funeral Home
4:00 - 9:00 pm (Central time)
With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Gilbert Paul Bodin, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who was the heart of his family. Gilbert will be remembered for his unwavering faith, dedication to family, and tireless work ethic in the agricultural community of Abbeville, Louisiana. Gilbert peacefully passed away on June 13, 2026, shortly after celebrating his 90th birthday on June 7. Born in Abbeville at the Palms Hospital, he spent much of his life in Maurice, where he worked as a hay farmer and co-owned a dirt hauling and land leveling service, "Bodin & Son." His contributions to the community and his love for the land will be fondly remembered by those who knew him. Funeral services for Gilbert will be held on June 20, 2026, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church beginning at 12:30 PM. With Reverend Daniel Picard as the celebrant. Following the mass, Gilbert will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Sorokwasz, Jeff Haeder, Larry Hebert, Perry Broussard, Tanner Guidry and Marshall Sorokwasz. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Frederick, Larry Marceaux, Boo Broussard, and Greg Bodin.
He was a kind of man who never met a stranger and never let anyone leave his home hungry. Whether you stopped by for a quick visit or stayed all afternoon, you were sure to find a warm welcome, plenty of laughter, and stories that only Gilbert could tell. He loved farming, cooking for family and friends, listening to Country music and gathering with the people he cherished most. Gilbert had a gift for making everyone feel special. His grandchildren especially treasured the way he would light up when they walked through the door, opening his arms wide and greeting them with his favorite words: "My Baby!" Those hugs, smiles, and moments of unconditional love are memories that will be carried forever.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ethel Trahan Bodin; mother, Mazie Landry Bodin; father, Constant Bodin; sister, "Toot" Bodin Hebert; brother, Wilbert Bodin; and nephew, Ronald Bodin.
He is survived by his children, Carey Bodin Broussard (Paul), Greg Bodin (Didelina), and Chanda Bodin Duhon (Kim); proud grandfather of Meredith Broussard Sorokwasz (Mark), Lizzie Broussard Haeder (Jeff), Camryn Duhon (Sabrena), Jake Pelous (Kelee), and Skyla Quibodeaux; and treasured great-grandfather of Bella Sorokwasz, Marshall Sorokwasz, Mazie Haeder, Caroline Haeder and Elle Pelous.
His family will forever remember the stories he shared, the meals he prepared, the laughter he inspired, and the countless ways he showed his love. While our hearts are broken, we are grateful for every moment, every lesson, every gathering and every memory.
Until we meet again Pa, thank you for your hugs , your stories, your laughter, and your endless love. You were truly one of a kind, and you will be missed.
