Gloria Harrington Pierce

September 25, 1926 — March 23, 2022

Abbeville- A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 28, 2022 at Abbeville United Methodist Church for Gloria Harrington Pierce, 95, who went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 surrounded by her family.

From an early age, one of Gloria’s strongest connections in her life was to her church, The Methodist Church of Abbeville, where she was an active member for 89 Years. The church gave her peace, comfort and purpose. She joined in and served in many capacities for the church including the United Methodist Women and helped start and lead the 55+ group for many years.

“Ms. Gloria”, as she was known, was a very independent lady. She was a hard worker and worked in various capacities throughout her life in and out of the home. Her volunteer work equaled and exceeded that work. Gloria always stayed busy. After her husband’s death 30 years ago, she went on to volunteer her time running the gift shop at Abbeville General Hospital. Eventually acting as president of the hospital volunteers for many of those years.

When no one would assume the role, Gloria served as a softball coach. With no knowledge of the game, she stepped up and acted as coach when no one else would, otherwise the team would have been disbanded. She was always on hand for all of her children’s activities.

She was an avid oil painter and rarely missed a class, always sharing her paintings with someone anxious to receive them.

Gloria Harrington Pierce was born on September 25, 1926 in Port Arthur, Texas. She was preceded in death by her Father, Perry Harrington, her Mother, Pamela LeBlanc Harington Sellers, her sister, Patsy Hebert and her husband, Alvin “Pete” Pierce.

Gloria was married to Alvin “Pete” Pierce for 42 years until his untimely death in 1992. They were truly best friends and she has often said he was the love of her life. They had had four children. Gloria’s pride and joy was her family. She was continually amazed at the size and closeness of her family. There are too many stories to tell about the connection she had with each member of her family. She loved going on trips with her family, especially the casino, playing cards until late in the evening and having all of her children around her. She was an avid cook, sports fan and could beat anyone at solving puzzles.

She is survived by her children Debra (Joey) Hebert, David (Kerry) Pierce, Dena (David) Veillon and Donna (Page) Folse. 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers will be Scott Pierce, Kris Pierce, Patrick Veillon, Pete Folse, Joel Folse, and John David Wilkinson.
