James Meyer Mestayer

ABBEVILLE-A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Father Randy Courville will be held at 2:30 PM, Friday, January 9, 2026, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, honoring the life of James Meyer Mestayer, 83, who passed away on January 7, 2026, at The Carpenter House. He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery alongside his wife. Serving as pallbearers will be Alexis "Alex" Husser, Trevor Sam, Mark Mestayer, Derek Campbell, Linc Campbell, and Neal Hebert.

A visitation will take place at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville, 209 S. Saint Charles St., Abbeville, on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 10:00 AM until 2:15 PM, when the procession will depart for the church. A rosary is being prayed at 11:30 AM led by Blane Comeaux. Gift bearers will be Mary Ann Mestayer, Emily Nicolle Meaux Sam, and Laura Lynn Rebollo.

James is survived by his children, Michael James Mestayer, Monette Jane Mestayer Meaux and her husband, Roy “Keith” Meaux, and Mary Ann Mestayer; grandchildren, Holly Ann Meaux Husser and her husband, Alexis “Alex”Husser, Emily Nicolle Meaux Sam and her husband, Trevor Sam, and Laura Lynn Rebollo; five great-grandchildren, Sadie Jane Husser, Georgia Lynn Husser, Jackson Keith Husser, Carson Nicholas Sam, and Veda Ann Husser; sister, Mary Lee Mestayer Krielow and her husband, William “Bill” Krielow; brother, Francis “Bodie” Mestayer and his wife, Judy Mestayer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mona Faye Hebert Mestayer; parents, Daniel C. Mestayer, Sr. and Mary Ann Lapeze Mestayer; brother, Daniel C. Mestayer, Jr. and his wife, Judee Mestayer; father-in-law, Nelson Hebert; and mother-in-law, Ledora Hebert.
