A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on August 20, 2025, at St Anne's Roman Catholic Church at Cow Island honoring the life of Jimmie John Choate, 89, who died August 18, 2025, at his home in Forked Island. Rosary will be at 10:00 AM. He will be laid to rest at St Anne's Cemetery with Reverend Suresh Mathangi officiating the services. Pallbearers will be James Choate, Mark Choate, Robert Choate, Kevin Choate, Jeremy Choate, and Chad Canova.
Funeral Services and visiting hours will be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave. starting at 8:00 am, August 20, until the procession departs for the church.
Jimmie was born at Pecan Island and lived there till he was 21 yrs old. He graduated from Pecan Island High School in 1955, then spent some time in college at USL of Lafayette. Jimmie worked most of his life in the oilfield as a boat captain. Jimmie married the love of his life on April 23, 1957, had three sons together, and they remained married for over 68 years.
He was a very kind man and will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Gene Guidry Choate; his three sons, James Choate and his wife Arletta, Mark Choate, and Robert Choate and his wife Vanessa; four grandchildren, Nicole, Mindy, Kevin, and Jeremy; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis Joseph and Mary May Broussard Choate; siblings, Jane Marie Monic, Eugene Choate, and Cecile Campbell; his paternal grandparents, Elevoda Choate and Ellen Veazey Choate; and his maternal grandparents, Elaire Broussard and Edna Herpin Broussard.
