ABBEVILLE — With great sadness, we announce the passing of John Craig Hebert, a beloved son, partner, father, and cherished member of the Abbeville community. John Craig passed away at his residence on October 13, 2026, at age 71. 

John Craig was a proud member of Abbeville High School’s Fighting Wildcats Class of 1971, where he formed lasting friendships and made cherished memories. For 49 years, he operated Craig’s Texaco, becoming a familiar face and trusted friend throughout the community. His warm smile and kind demeanor made him more than a business owner; he was a source of support to those he encountered. Beyond his work, John embraced life fully. He enjoyed watching sports, cheering for his favorite teams at home, and discussing the latest games with friends. He also found joy in gardening, tending his plants with the same care and dedication he gave his family. He enjoyed playing tennis and valued the friendly competition and camaraderie it brought. 

Funeral services will be held on October 17, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville. Services will be conducted by Pastor Chris Reis of Our Savior’s Church. Following the service, John Craig will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery in Abbeville. 

Pallbearers will be Hunter Fontenot, Kevin Abbott, Jesse Abbott, Gavin Hulin, Carey LeBlanc, David LeBlanc, and Josh Hebert. Honorary pallbearers will be Jody Fontenot, Noah Hebert, Jonah Hebert, and Michael Faulk. 

Visitation will be held at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville, 209 S. Saint Charles St., Abbeville, on Friday, October 16, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a rosary prayed at 6:30 PM. Visitation will resume on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 9:00 AM and continue until the service begins. 

John Craig is survived by Charlet Faulk, his beloved fiancée of 23 years; his children, Heather H. Fontenot (Jody), Jace M. Hebert (Denise), and Holly H. LeBlanc (Carey); his stepdaughter, Mandy D. Hebert (Joshua); his grandchildren, Morgan Fontenot, Hunter Fontenot, Hailey Hebert, Jonah Hebert, Noah Hebert, Becca LeBlanc, and Lydia Hebert; and his sisters, Jackie Hebert and Janice H. LeBlanc (David). 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Joseph Hebert and Anna Broussard Hebert.
