John "J.C." Petry

Gueydan, La - A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Reverend Stephen S. Irudayasamy will be held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, October 2, 2025, at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of John Clayton Petry, 91, who passed away on September 29, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He will be laid to rest at Gueydan Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Daniel Petry, Gabe Lougon, Alex Guilbeau, Larry Lougon, Leighton Guilbeau, and Brandon Badon.

A visitation will take place at Vincent Funeral Home of Gueydan on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 9:00 AM until 2:45 PM with a rosary being prayed at 12:00 PM.

J.C. was born on October 18, 1933, to Willie and Nellie Aube Petry. J.C. was employed by The Bank of Gueydan until he entered the service in the U.S. Army. After his service was completed, he returned to The Bank as a teller. On August 16, 1958, J.C. married Verda Melancon with whom he shared 67 years of marriage. J.C. retired from The Bank in December of 2018 having served as President and Chairman of the board. In total J.C. was with The Bank of Gueydan for 63 years. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Verda Melancon Petry; his son, Clayton Petry (Jenny); his daughters, Lisa Guilbeau (Leighton) and Kim Lougon (Larry); his grandchildren, Leslie Badon (Brandon), Daniel Petry, Brandon Lougon, Gabe Lougon and Alex Guilbeau; and his great-grandchildren, Annie and Brett Badon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Proford, LeeRoy, Thomas, Percy; and two infant sisters. 

J.C.'s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Kaplan Home Care, LAMM Hospice, and Dr. Paul Stringfellow and his staff for their compassionate care and support during this difficult time. Their kindness and dedication brought comfort and peace to us all.
