Joyce Carlin, affectionately known as “Big Maw” to her family and friends, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Joyce lived a full and joyful life, marked by her sharp wit, lively spirit, and love for her family.
As her high school yearbook once humorously noted, “If silence was golden, she would be in the poorhouse.” That sentiment perfectly captured Joyce’s vibrant personality. She had a true gift for conversation and brought laughter wherever she went with her quirky comments and stories. Whether it was playing a good game of rummy or bourré, enjoying a trip to the casino, or simply sharing a cold drink with loved ones, Joyce made every moment count.
Joyce now rejoins in eternal rest her beloved husband of 56 years, Harrison Joseph Carlin; her parents, Sidney and Enite Hebert; her maternal grandparents, Clodias and Carmelite Vincent; her paternal grandparents, Albert and Uzeed Hebert; and her sisters, Velma “Val” Duhon, Hilda “Bea” Broussard, and Nelda “Brun” LeBlanc.
She leaves behind a family who will carry her memory in their hearts, her son, Michael James Carlin; her daughter, Tina Marie Stutes and husband Glynn; her grandchildren, Brandy Ann Tuminello and husband Banyon, Joshua Glynn Stutes and wife Suzette, and Jake Michael Stutes and wife Aimee; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Gloridean “Tin” Langlinais and Jacqueline “Jack” Broussard; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Acadiana for their compassion and care. A special thank you is also offered to our extended family, friends, and church community for the prayers and spiritual support during this time.
We trust that she has been welcomed home with open arms. May she rest in the Eternal Peace of God.
We demonstrate kindness in our relationships with others
but we grow in kindness through our relationship with Christ.
In lieu of flowers please do a random act of kindness in memory of “Big Maw.”
