It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Julia T. Choate, who departed this life peacefully on July 31, 2025, at the age of 85. Surrounded by her devoted family and loved ones, she was called home to meet our Heavenly Father.

Born on November 30, 1939, in Erath, Louisiana, Julia was the eldest of five children born to Wilton and Lorena Toups. From an early age, she embodied strength, compassion, and grace. She was dearly loved by her siblings and remained the family’s steadfast pillar of support throughout their lives.

She was a proud graduate of Erath High School. Following graduation, she met the love of her life, George W. Choate Jr. They married on March 11, 1961, and shared 49 wonderful years together as husband and wife. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and enduring love. Julia and George were longtime parishioners of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Abbeville, Louisiana.

Julia found her greatest joy in her roles as a wife, mother, and beloved “Granny.” She was the heart of her home—a devoted homemaker, cherished cook, and the glue that held her family together through every season of life. Her warmth and wisdom were comfort to all. She was always ready with a listening ear, a kind word, a witty remark, or a delicious snack.

She is survived by her beloved brother, Mickey Toups (Lisa), and her four children: Martha Choate (David), Renee Choate (Terry), George Choate (Linda), John Choate (Brenda). She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Shannon Feehery (Matthew), Angelina Hebert (Ryan), Toby Choate (Casey), Tara Meaux (Tylan), Paige D'Agostino (Paul), Taylor Gaspard (Ian), Libbee Choate, Zachary Choate, Layla Choate, Dustin Picard, and Eric Picard; as well as eighteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Julia is preceded in death by her loving parents, Wilton and Lorena Toups; her siblings, Ronald Toups, Dalton Toups, and Dorothy Pere'; her cherished husband, George W. Choate Jr.; and her precious great-great-grandchild, Finn Jude Breaux.

All who were blessed to know Julia are invited to join her family in honoring her beautiful life.

Julia's legacy of love, resilience, and faith will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and cherished her.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville, LA (337) 893-4661.
