ABBEVILLE - With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kurt, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, beloved son, treasured brother, and loyal friend.
A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Rev. Matthew Barzare will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 18, 2026, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 300 Pere Megret St., Abbeville, honoring the life of Kurt James Romero, 64, who passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family.
He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery. Urn bearers will be Nathan Joseph Romero, Trenton James Romero, and Kody Paul Meaux.
Kurt was a man whose greatest joy came from caring for those he loved. As an exceptional chef, he expressed his love through every meal he prepared, bringing family and friends together around the table with his incredible talent and generous spirit. His strong work ethic, kind heart, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Outside the kitchen, Kurt had a gift for woodworking, creating beautiful pieces with patience and skill for each of his children and grandchildren. He also found happiness tending to his garden, taking pride in watching things grow and flourish. His love for animals was evident in the gentle care and compassion he showed to every creature that crossed his path.
Of all the roles he held in life, being "PaPop" was among his favorites. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he never missed an opportunity to spoil them with donuts, cookies, and sweet treats whenever they were together. Those simple acts of love became treasured memories that his family will carry with them forever.
He will be remembered for his warmth, his laughter, his unwavering dedication to his family, and the countless ways he made those around him feel loved. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the memories that will forever be held close.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joan Frederick Romero; son, Nathan Joseph Romero and his wife, Allison; daughter, Ashley Nicole Meaux and her husband, Kody; son, Trenton James Romero and his wife Julie; grandchildren, Rhea, Kelly, Adele, Caroline, Nora, Rhett, and Leigh Anne; sisters, Deanna Broussard and her husband Black, and Patricia Suire and Freddie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ix Joseph Romero and the former Beverly Frederick; father and mother-in-law, Kelly Frederick and the former Clara Fournier; brothers-in-law, Gregory Suire, Bubba Frederick, and Jude Frederick.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate caregivers of VitalCaring Group, especially Jennifer, Terri, and Lisa, whose kindness, comfort, and dedicated care brought peace and dignity to his final days. Their support allowed him to remain at home, surrounded by the love of his family, and for that they will always be deeply thankful.
Though he will be greatly missed, his love, strength, and gentle spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
All funeral arrangements are being conducted by Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville (337) 893-4661.
