Obituary

ABBEVILLE-A Mass of Christian Burial will be held to honor the life of Marvin L. Frederick, who passed away on Saturday 12, 2026, at the age of 74. The mass will be officiated by the Very Reverend Chester Arceneaux, V.F. Pastor of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lafayette, LA at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, located at 101 N. Leonard St., Abbeville, LA. He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery 515 Jacqulyn St. in Abbeville. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Tommy Frederick, Thomas Frederick, Jr., Billy Mayer, Mike Stelly, Homer Stelly and Chris Peltier. The lectors for the mass will be Billy Mayer and Thomas Frederick, Jr; the gift bearers will be Paige Frederick Gossen and Heidi Frederick Hebert.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Vincent Funeral Home 209 S. Saint Charles St. Abbeville, LA from 9:00 AM until 1:45 PM when the procession departs for the church. A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 AM.

Marvin was born on March 25, 1952 in Abbeville, LA, where he resided for the entirety of his life. He was a self-employed electrician for many years, who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved his nieces and nephews dearly and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for them. He also enjoyed raising a small herd of cattle, when his health allowed.

He is survived by his brother the Honorable Judge Thomas J Frederick and his wife Stacey; nephews, William “Billy” Mayer (Christi), Christopher L Frederick and Thomas J Frederick, Jr (Caitlyn); nieces, Julie M. Mayer, Paige Frederick Gossen (Sean) and Heidi Frederick Hebert (Jacques); seven great-nieces and four great-nephews; and his brother-in-law, Bobby Mayer.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Edier Frederick and Mary Armosa Stelly Frederick; his sister, Marlene Frederick Mayer; his brother, Charlie J. Frederick and three beautiful little angels.

Marvin’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Eastridge Nursing and Rehabilitation and the nurses and doctors of Lamm Hospice for the care they gave Marvin.
