Melisa Ann Stanley

Abbeville, LA - A memorial service will be held at a later date honoring the life of Melisa Ann Stanley, 59, who passed away on Tuesday, January 6th, 2026 at Calcutta House.

Heaven gained a selfless and caring soul. Melisa was a loving wife, mother, mimi, sister and friend. As a nurse, she put the healing of others above her own with unmatched dedication. Melisa’s fight and determination will live on in every soul she touched. With all our love, she can finally spread her wings and truly fly.

She is survived by her loving husband of thirty-two years, Jerry E. Stanley II; her son, Brian Wordell; her daughters, Rebecca Stanley, and Kaylyn Broussard and her husband Carlton Broussard Jr. Her grandchildren, Connor, Amelia, Elijah, Charlotte, Isabella, Lauren and Elias. Her siblings Elizabeth Guarino, and Ben and Stephanie Matthews. Melisa is survived by her step mother Barbara Fiero Wordell. She is also survived by her godchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert E. Wordell and Patsy Searan; adoptive parents, Rodney Matthews and Nancy Matthews; and her grandmother, Imogene Berryman.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and nurses of Hospice of Acadiana, Calcutta House, and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for the care, compassion and friendship they extended to Melisa.
