Mona Dennis, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on October 1, 2026, at the age of 84.
Funeral services officiated by Reverend Stephen S. Irudayasamy will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, October 03, 2026, at Vincent Funeral Home of Gueydan. She will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery in Jennings, La.
A visitation will take place at Vincent Funeral Home of Gueydan on Saturday, October 03, 2026, from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 10:00 AM.
Mona was a woman who found joy in the simple things and made special memories wherever she went. She loved spending time camping in her RV, fishing, and crocheting. She had a special place in her heart for Barbies and proudly collected more than 200 of them.
She was also known for the things she made with love in her kitchen-especially her delicious fig pies and the gumbo she cooked just like her mother, a recipe that carried a piece of her family's history and love.
She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory, including her three children: daughter Kim Meaux (Jason) and sons Tyrone Abshire (Elaine) and Dougie Abshire.
She was a proud grandmother to Seth Bay (Kendall), Larissa Abshire, Chelsea Means, Allyson Rodriguez (Sergio), Shea Sikes (Kallie Jean), Stormi Abshire, and JT Abshire (Indigo), and a loving great-grandmother to eight great-grandchildren.
Mona is also survived by her sister, Hope Richard (Ivy), along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who were blessed to know her.
Mona was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Melvin Dennis; her parents, Eddie H. and Hilda Istre; and her brother, Floyd Istre.
Mona's love, laughter, traditions, and the memories she created with her family will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Her recipes, her hobbies, her collections, and most of all, the love she gave her family will be part of her legacy for generations to come.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the team at Gueydan Memorial Guest Home for the love and care they had for Mona and also Lamm Hospice for their kindness and care during her last days.
All funeral arrangements are being conducted by Vincent Funeral Home - Gueydan (337) 536-6124.
