Osmond (Coach Ossie Blaize) passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on May 5, 2025, at Ochsner Lafayette General Hospital surrounded by his family. Ossie was a man who loved deeply and lived simply. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, educator & coach. Ossie impacted many people and will be remembered for whatever he met to them. His legacy will be carried forward through the kids, some now coaches and former coaches. He was loved by many. A Funeral Mass will be held at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the passing of Osmond Alphonse Blaize, II. Reverend Louis Richard will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Travis Blaize, Lorrie Ardoin, Paul Hebert, Paul Gazetta, Jody Dubois, and Remy J. Blaize. Honorary pallbearers will be Daylon J Whitaker, Cohen A. Dubois, and Carson J. Dubois. A visitation will take place at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville, 209 S. Saint Charles St., Abbeville on Monday, May 12, 2025 from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM a rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM; and will continue Tuesday, May 13, 2025 from 9:00 AM until 3:45 PM when the procession will depart for the church. He loved fishing with his buddies (favorite), and our gatherings with family, as well as going to his grandchildren’s Daylon, Cohen ,and Carson’s football, soccer, basketball, baseball games and Travis’s football games and track meets. Ossie Blaize was born November 11, 1948, in Bay St. Louis Mississippi and is the Son of Osmond Blaize Sr. and Vera Banderet Blaize. He attended St. Stanislaus school where he graduated in 1966. Ossie went off to college at Pearl River before enrolling at the University of Southern Mississippi where he graduated with a degree in Psychology and English. He would begin his teaching and coaching career at Vancleave in 1970 where he would coach for 5 years and was an assistant coach on the 1973 Hall of Fame undefeated team. He would go on in 1975 to join the staff of Billy Murphy at Jesuit in New Orleans. While at Jesuit Ossie was the defensive coordinator on the state runner up team in 1978 where the team played the championship game in the superdome. After Jesuit Ossie became the head football and track coach at Vandebilt Catholic in Houma Louisiana in 1979. He would remain there until 1986 when he would go to Chalmette High School. After Chalmette he went to Vermilion Catholic in Abbeville where he coached for 10 seasons winning a state championship in track as well as coach of the year in football. After VC and a 1-year stint at Beau Chene he would go to Catholic High in New Iberia from 2002-2008. He would then go on to Abbeville High School until 2014 winning a state championship in girl’s track. Ossie would return to VC from 2015 until he retired from teaching in 2022. He would coach for 2 more years at Westminster Christian Academy in Opelousas Louisiana. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 26 years, Debbie Blaize; sons, Andrew Travis Blaize – wife (Caitlin), and Remy Blaize – wife (Rachel); daughter, Meghan E Blaize; stepsons, Jody James Dubois – wife (Dawn), and Coty J Dubois – wife (Isabelle); grandchildren, Daylon James Whitaker-wife (Brylee), Cohen A. Dubois, Carson J. Dubois, Luca Rose Blaize, Lenni Blake Blaize, and Andrew Banks Blaize; two sisters, Cheryl B. Gascon, and Patricia Mehaffey. He was preceded in death by his, mother, Vera Banderet Mistler; father, Osmond A. Blaize Sr.; maternal grandparents, Louis J. Banderet and Elsie Perre’ Banderet; parental grandparents, Raphael S. Blaize and Aline Necaise Blaize; brother, Michael S. Blaize; and brother-in-law, Robert Hansen. |
