Phylis "Mike" Richard

Funeral services officiated by Deacon Bryan Istre will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 20, 2026, at Vincent Funeral Home of Kaplan honoring the life of Phylis "Mike" Richard, 74, who passed away on March 17, 2026, at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center.

A visitation will take place at Vincent Funeral Home of Kaplan on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM.

Phylis was not just a homemaker; she wore many hats throughout her life. She served as secretary at Cecil Picard Elementary, ran her own businesses-L&R Construction Co. Inc. and Spare Room Storage-and was lovingly known as "Mikie" to her daughter-in-law. Most importantly, she took on the cherished role of "Amie" to her two grandsons, with whom she spent countless joyous days and created memories that will forever live on in their hearts.

Known for her passion for horse shows, Phylis traveled across the country, proudly accumulating numerous world and national championships. Beyond her competitive spirit, she found happiness in simple pleasures-gardening, spending quality time with family and friends, enjoying trips to the camp, and casting a line while fishing with her husband, Russell.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Russell W. Richard; her two sons, Stoney Richard (Vince Racca along with their children Ariel Babineaux, Alyssa Boullion, and Quientin Dougherty) and Ross Richard (Jacqueline); her two grandsons, Karson and Kase Richard; her brother, Greg Decuire; and many cousins and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Precious Bower; her daughter Rosalyn Richard; her stepfather, John "Woody" Underwood; her uncle, Jerry Calhoun; her mother-in-law, Lelia Richard, and her father-in-law, Leo Richard.
