COW ISLAND-A Memorial Mass honoring the life of Richard Dale Mouton, Sr., will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 1:00 PM at St. Anne Catholic Church in Cow Island with Reverend Glenn Meaux officiating.
Visitation will be held at the church from 10:30 AM until the time of the mass; a rosary will be prayed at 12:15 PM. Entombment will follow in the Church Mausoleum.
Richard was born and reared on his family’s Cow Island, Louisiana farm, where he died peacefully on July 18. Richard graduated from E. Broussard High School and then attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles, where he majored in mechanical engineering. In 1963, Richard was honored by the National FFA with an American Farmer Degree, the highest award given to FFA members.
After college, Richard left Cow Island to explore the world and pursue a career in oilfield operations and sales. He worked for Schlumberger as its Eastern Hemisphere Operations Manager, establishing operations from Aberdeen to Singapore. He also witnessed the developing oil-producing nations of the Middle East and established bases there. After a successful oilfield career abroad, Richard returned stateside as International Sales Manager and then Senior Account Executive in New Orleans. He spent the remainder of his 40-year career making friends and doing business as Senior Account Manager with the likes of Coastal Fluid Technologies and Rapid Energy Services. Richard served on many charitable committees, but the John P. Hebert Memorial Redfish Classic, devoted to raising funds for children’s charities, was especially close to his heart. Richard believed in helping others and never turned down an excuse to be on a boat.
Wanting to return home to his roots and his family, including his aging mother, Rita, and his children, Richard built his home on land that was part of his family’s farm, surrounded by pasture and marsh. In his retirement, Richard was able to raise cattle, fish, hunt alligators, and had all the Tonka toys to make life fun.
Richard had an infectious laugh and a lust for life that spilled over on all who knew him. He worked hard and played hard. Richard was an extraordinary man who took care of business but always had time to enjoy life to the fullest with those he loved.
Preceded in death by his parents, Raywood Paul Mouton, Sr. and Rita Richard Mouton.
Richard is survived by the love of his life, his devoted wife of twenty-eight years, Anita Loeb Mouton; his children from his marriage to Margaret Hebert Mouton, Richard Mouton Jr. (James), Chloe Modica (Joe), and Clay Mouton (Melinda); his grandchildren, Justin, Jared, Blake, Tyler, Haylie, Kelli, and Reese; and his great grandchildren, Hayes, Bayler, Aiden, Vivian, and Miller. He is also survived by his brother, R. P. Mouton, Sr. (Kathy); and sister, Raye Nell Mouton Trahan (David).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital to honor Richard’s memory.
All funeral arrangements are being conducted by Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville (337) 893-4661.
