Rickey James Brown Sr.

Rickey "Downtown" James Brown Sr., age 62, of Kaplan, LA, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, after a courageous nine-year battle with cancer. Funeral services officiated by Reverend Farley Painter will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Vincent Funeral Home of Kaplan.

A visitation will take place at Vincent Funeral Home of Kaplan on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 11:00 AM. 

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Donna F. Brown of Kaplan; his son, Rickey Brown Jr. and his wife, Erika of Lexington, KY; his mother, Dot Arabie of Kaplan; his four grandchildren, Sydney, Riley, Jamie, and Logan Brown all of Lexington, KY; his sister, Darlene Johnson and her husband Mike of Kaplan; his special aunt, Marie Brown of Perry, GA; his sister-in-law Susan Stirling and her husband Bill of Livingston; and his numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Byrum Brown; his in-laws, Huby and Liz Fuselier; his special dog, Shelly, who helped get him through chemo treatments; his cousin, Aaron Fitzsimmons; his stepfather, Preston Arabie; and his maternal grandparents, Vanrace and Laura Hebert.
