Funeral services honoring the life of Robert "Robbeaux" Hebert will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 19th, 2026, at Vincent Funeral Home in Abbeville. Robert passed away peacefully at Kaplan Healthcare Center on September 8th, 2026. He will be laid of rest at St. Paul Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Vincent Funeral Home, 209 St. Charles Street on Friday, September 18th, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday, September 19th, 2026, at 9 a.m. until the service starts at 11 a.m.

Robert was born in Abbeville on September 26th, 1959. He attended Mt. Carmel Elementary before graduating from Abbeville High School in 1977. Shortly after graduation, he was hired as a deckhand on the crew boat "Seahorse," captained by Rudy LeFort. Captain LeFort served as a knowledgeable and generous mentor to Robert, instilling in him a great love for boats---so much so that Robert became a crew boat captain himself, a remarkable achievement for a 19-year-old. His first crew boat was the "Venture," and he spoke fondly of his time piloting the vessel on the Gulf of Mexico. He also supported himself as a crawfisherman and worked on an alligator farm, regaling his nephews and nieces with colorful stories about alligator wrestling and delighting them with countless gifts of alligator teeth.

In the early 1990s Robert took a leap of faith and decided to pursue his dream of becoming a full-time musician. Blessed with a powerful, expressive voice, he became the lead singer, guitarist, harmonica and scrub board player for many local bands, including White Lightning, Spectrum, Willie Purple, Domino, Calico Cats, The Robbeaux and Billy Show (with Billy Tate), Yazoo, Gritz and Gravy, Gumbo Nellie, and Cheap Thrill.

During his long career, Robert played countless gigs at venues across Louisiana, served as a guest singer with other local bands, and toured the music circuit along the Gulf Coast. Robert found his calling on stage. Making the most of his long, thick mane of curls and bright blue eyes, "Robbeaux" developed a persona as a wildly entertaining performer, belting out rock, soul, blues, country and Cajun standards, while enlivening each set with a mix of outrageously funny stories and jokes. A talented mimic and raconteur, Robert knew how to connect with his audience, and his fanbase grew into a devoted following who appreciated his comedic routines as much as his rich, soulful voice.

Robert had other talents as well. He was a gifted pen and ink artist, an accomplished cook, and a prolific vegetable gardener, combining these talents into a side business selling his homemade pickles and chow-chow, each jar adorned with whimsical hand-drawn labels. He was also a skilled woodworker, crafting birdhouses, ornamental boxes and small pieces of furniture from salvaged wood. Additionally, for five years before suffering a debilitating stroke in 2024, Rob was the enthusiastic administrator of a groupage dedicated to offshore vessels, sharing his passion for boats with others across the country.

Robert will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and big heart, and as a loving brother and doting uncle. He is survived by his siblings, Kathleen Touchet (Patrick), Jackie Bullock (Steve), Lisa Johnson (David) and Jason Hebert. In addition, he leaves behind his nieces and nephews, Joshua Bullock (Johanna), Andrew Bullock (Andrea), Camille Pozderac (Jon) and Melissa Moore (Jimmy), along with seven great nieces and nephews and one great-great nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver V. Hebert and Rita Mayard Hebert.

The family would like to thank the staff at Kaplan Healthcare Center who provided excellent care and kindness in the last two years of his life: nurses Dawn, Cicily, Cindi, Nakeisha, Kim, Hailey and Connie; nurse practitioner Kimberly; physical therapist Steven; and CNAs April, Brooklyn, Angela, Kimberly and Cassie.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's memory can be made to Sweet Relief Musicians' Fund at www.sweetrelief.org. To celebrate Robert's passion for professional and college football, all are encouraged to wear their favorite teams' jerseys to the funeral.
