Shelia Montet Duhon, born on October 30, 1958, in Abbeville, Louisiana to Vernice and Lucille Meaux Montet, passed away on June 30, 2026. A lifelong resident of Kaplan, Louisiana, Shelia leaves behind a legacy of love. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 3, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Cemetery with Reverend Glenn Meaux officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Beau Duhon, Corey Harrington, Joey Livers, Gary Harrington, Kristoffer Harrington, Kenny Boudreaux and Vu Huynh.
Shelia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Garland Duhon; her parents, Vernice and Lucille Meaux Montet; and her nephew, Seth Melancon.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Erin Duhon and spouse, Laurie Hebert of Kaplan; her son, Beau Duhon, and granddaughter, Josie Duhon both of Kaplan; her sister, Deborah Montet Harrington, and husband, Gary Harrington of Katy, TX; her goddaughter, Brandy Harrington Huynh, husband, Vu Huynh, and their children, Raiden and Jaxon all of Katy, TX ; her nephew, Kristoffer Harrington, and his wife, Diana Harrington of Houston, TX; and her cousin, Susan Meaux of Kaplan, and her son, Corey Harrington of Lafayette.
In addition to her family, Shelia was blessed with lifelong friends who became family. The family would like to recognize the Segura and Boudreaux families for their enduring friendship, love, and support throughout the years. Their presence in Shelia's life was a true blessing, and the memories they shared will always be cherished.
She also leaves behind many extended family members, cherished friends, and neighbors whose lives were enriched by her kindness and friendship.
She found her greatest happiness in being surrounded by those she loved and creating lasting memories through life's simple moments. She especially loved celebrating the holidays, with Mardi Gras holding a special place in her heart. As "Gammie," she delighted in playing games and was a devoted audience for all things Josie, cherishing every story, accomplishment, and adventure. Beau will miss their morning and afternoon coffees together, and Erin will miss her favorite dance partner; the memories they created together will be treasured forever.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Fresenius Dialysis Center for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness they provided to Shelia over the past 12 years. Your dedication, encouragement, and genuine concern brought comfort to Shelia and her family, and the relationships you built with her will always be remembered with gratitude.
The family also wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the compassionate team at Heart of Hospice for the comfort, dignity, and support they provided during Shelia's final days.
Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Shelia's life. Visitation will be held at Vincent Funeral Home in Kaplan on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary being recited at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on July 3, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. until the procession departs for a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kaplan. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery.
