ABBEVILLE-With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Wilfred Owens, Jr., who left us peacefully on January 1, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on January 28, 1946, in New Iberia, Louisiana, Wilfred made his home in Maurice, where he built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. A talented welder in the oil and gas industry, Wilfred was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. But beyond his profession, he was a devoted family man, spending countless joyful hours coaching T-ball with his sons and being an integral part of family gatherings. Wilfred was proud to be a Grand Knight and member of the Knights of Columbus, where he formed lasting friendships and enjoyed giving back to his community. A passionate sports fan, he could often be found cheering on the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers, sharing in the highs and lows of the games with fellow fans. Cooking was another of Wilfred’s beloved pastimes, where he found joy in preparing meals for family and friends. His heart overflowed with love for gospel music, with Jimmy Swaggart being his favorite. He found comfort and inspiration in the melodies and messages, which resonated deeply with his faith.
